10 Soft and Soothing Foods for Post-Surgery Comfort: A Guide to Nourishing Your Body After Wisdom Teeth Removal

I am finally on the tail-end of recovery from wisdom teeth removal. If there's one thing I've learned throughout this process, it's the importance of having a repertoire of anti-inflammatory recipes on hand. So, here I am, eager to share ten culinary comforts that have been my saving grace during this healing period.

  1. Daily Juices: This is the best way to get in all those nutrients! I enjoyed 2x large juices daily. Some I enjoyed and loved were:

    • Celery

    • Lettuce, celery, cucumber, lime, apple

    • Lettuce, celery, cucumber, pear, coriander, lemon

    • Kale, spinach, coriander, apple, orange, lemon, ginger

    • Carrot, orange, ginger, turmeric, lemon

  2. Heavy Metal Detox Smoothie: I added a tbsp of amla powder to up the vitamin C for a speedy recovery.

  3. Tropical Strawberry Smoothie:

    • 5-6 Strawberries

    • 2 Bananas

    • 1 handful spinach

    • 1 tbsp wheatgrass powder

    • 1 tbsp amla powder - high potent vitamin c

    • Optional: lime

    • Coconut water or water (to your desired consistency)

  4. Banana Oatmeal: Creamy oatmeal cooked with almond milk, blueberry juice, and water is the ultimate comfort food for chilly mornings. It's hearty, nutritious, and gentle on delicate post-surgery mouths.

  5. Mashed Cauliflower/Potatoes and Mashed Peas: This was an awesome dinner recipe to enjoy. Best to include onion and garlic for their immune support benefits.

  6. Potato Mushroom Soup: Creamy, and favoursome. This was so yum. Enjoyed with rosemary for extra healing.

  7. Zucchini Soup: I love the extra added tahini for some extra calories.

  8. Red lentil soup with tomatoes and potatoes: Thick and creamy! Potatoes are healing fave because they're loaded with vitamins and antioxidants to support the healing process.

  9. Dahl Soup: Nutritious and filling :)

  10. Pumpkin 5-Spice Soup- Some compounds found in pumpkins, such as beta-carotene and other antioxidants, have anti-inflammatory properties. Consuming pumpkins may help reduce inflammation in the body and lower the risk of chronic diseases associated with inflammation.

As I near the end of this chapter, I'm grateful for the lessons learned and the culinary discoveries made along the way (definitely a good repertoire of recipes for when I have kids!). Wisdom teeth removal may not be the most enjoyable experience, but with the right foods and remedies, it's certainly manageable. So here's to nourishment, healing, and the simple joys of soft, soothing meals.
